It dawned on me recently that I haven't written anything lately about karma, which is what this whole blog was supposed to be about in the first place. It's ended up being a lot of cats and I'm sorry for that (no I'm not).
If you know me well you know I'm rarely caught without my karma ring or necklace on. It's a daily reminder for me that everything goes around. It's not always easy to take the time to put yourself in someone else's shoes and think of how you would feel if you were them, but it's how I handle each situation I'm faced with. The erratic waitress, the nosy neighbor, the new co-worker who asks a million questions a day... always try to take the time to think "how would I feel if I were in their position?". Or if that doesn't work, think "how would I want someone to treat my mom/dad/sister/brother/daughter/son in this situation".
Now, please don't misunderstand and think that I'm a saint who treats everyone with the respect they deserve all day, every day. I'm not (see: post where I was recently called a bully for the first time ever). But I do my part when I can. That's all anybody can really ask...
The next time you find yourself getting impatient and annoyed with someone, take a deep breath and then put yourself in their shoes. If that doesn't calm you down and make you feel at least a little more compassionate towards the other person, then, by all means, feel free to punch them in the face I guess. But at least try the shoes thing first. It's worth a shot.
